A Yellow Rose

September 22, 2022 | Story by Malik Archibald | Illustration by Allessandra Inzinna

Wearily I wade through a field of roses
The weight of life and lost love as my guide
A path I’ve walked many a time before
Only now I wish I never tried

Tried to find the perfect rose
One so red its petals burn my eyes
A sensation of which I know too well
And will forevermore despise
Knowing this path and its countless beds
I came across quite the surprise

A single yellow rose
Hidden in a sea of crimson flora

To this day I remember when
The realization came ‘round
In a field of roses I knew too well
Something new was found
