i.
Tiny wet footsteps
fleeing from bathtime suds spill
giggles into the air.
ii.
Dad’s shoulder becomes
the preferred pillow, beating
a blush-pink car seat.
iii.
Scraped knees and homework
are soon forgotten amidst
Barbie tea parties.
iv.
Wire-caged smiles
and rose-flushed cheeks scan sneakers
among first dances.
v.
Prom’s sore-armed updo
is lost to open windows,
loud songs, speeding fines.
vi.
Empty walls bring tears,
a fresh start, missed phone calls and
a life unrestrained.
